Deep Dive: 2019-2020 Women's Basketball Schedule

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College women's basketball team opens their 2019-2020 campaign on Friday night, and with it begins a schedule of 25 games overall, 11 at home, 12 on the road, two in Las Vegas, and eight against teams that made last year's NCAA tournament.

Home Games

KSC has just four home games prior to the holidays, beginning with a matchup against Middlebury College on November 16 at 2:00 p.m.  The Panthers made the NCAA tournament and won a first round game last year.  The Owls will then have a pair of contests at Spaulding Gymnasium the week of Thanksgiving, as Smith College visits Keene on November 26 (5:00 p.m.) and Fitchburg State University on November 30 (3:00 p.m.)  UMass-Boston visits on Saturday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. as KSC closes the semester with their first Little East home game of the season.  The Owls are not home again until January after that, and with it comes exclusively conference contests.  The University of Southern Maine visits on January 4 at 1:00 p.m., and Eastern Connecticut State University does the same on January 9 for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.  The Warriors won last year's LEC title with a road victory at UMass-Dartmouth, but fell to Johns Hopkins University in the first round of the NCAAs.

The first month of 2020 closes with a pair of Wednesday games two weeks apart, with UMass-Dartmouth coming on January 15 at 4:00 p.m. and Castleton University on January 29 at 5:30 p.m.  Plymouth State University visits one week later, on February 5 (5:30 p.m.), before the regular season home slate concludes with a pair of Saturday home dates against Rhode Island College on February 15 and Western Connecticut State University on February 22.  Both of those games begin at 1:00 p.m.

Road Games

Keene State's season opener comes tonight, November 8, at 6:30 against Suffolk University in Boston.  That is the beginning of four road games in the first five for the Owls, who visit Westfield State University on November 12, New England College on November 18, and Worcester State University on November 23.  The Little East opener comes with contest at Castleton on December 4.  KSC is not away from home after that until just prior to the new year, when they will travel to Las Vegas for a pair of games at the D3Hoops Classic, both against Massachusetts schools.  The first is against perennial power and preseason-No. 1 Amherst College on December 29 (3:00 p.m. ET), and the following day the Owls take on Emmanuel College at 5:00 p.m. ET.

Upon returning to New England, all conference road games await, as a trip to Plymouth State comes on January 7 and one to Rhode Island College is next on January 11.  KSC then has a pair of road games consecutively a week and a half later, with Western Connecticut (January 22) and UMass-Boston (January 25) on the schedule away from home.  February features three road dates, with the Owls slated to go to Southern Maine on February 1, UMass-Dartmouth on February 12, and Eastern Connecticut on February 19.

Six teams will qualify for the Little East Conference tournament, which will have three rounds, one each on February 25 (quarterfinals), February 27 (semifinals), and February 29 (championship).  The top six teams will qualify, with the first and second-seeded teams receiving a bye to the semifinals, where they will host winners of the 4 vs. 5 and 3 vs. 6 contests.  NCAA tournament selections are announced on March 2, with the tournament to follow each of the next three weekends, March 6-7, 13-14, and 20-21.  The Final Four will be hosted at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
