'KEENE, N.H. 01/30/06 - Sarah Begnoche was named Little East Conference women's basketball player of the week while David Sontag was selected to the men's basketball honor roll, it was announced on Monday.
In three contests last week for the Owls, Begnoche, a junior forward from Millville, Mass., averaged 12.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game leading Keene State to a perfect 3-0 week. In the first game of the week, KSC defeated Plymouth State, 69-54, as Begnoche scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds. In a non-conference win over Middlebury, 50-46, Begnoche posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. To end the week, the Owls defeated LEC foe UMass Dartmouth, 73-54, as Begnoche scored ten points, grabbed six rebounds and had four steals.
Sontag, from Mont Vernon, N.H. averaged 16.5 points and seven rebounds in a pair of KSC conference wins last week. The sophomore guard had 22 points and eight rebounds in the Owls' 80-67 victory over UMass-Dartmouth.
Tied for the lead in the Little East standings, the Keene State men's basketball team (13-5, 7-2 LEC) hosts Mitchell College in a non-conference game on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.).
The KSC women's team (12-8, 6-3 LEC) has a week off before traveling down to UMass-Boston on Saturday (1 p.m.).
