'Keen. N.H. 1/11/03 – The Keene State College women's basketball team notched its first Little East Conference win of the season with a 89-48 victory over Rhode Island College at Spaulding Gym on Saturday.
Winners of three straight, KSC improves to 8-4 overall and 1-2 in the LEC while R.I. College falls to 1-10 and 0-3 in conference play. They have lost their last nine games.
Four Owls scored in double figures in the game. Hayley Alaimo (Ellington, CT) had a game-high 17 points and Andrea Arsenault (Dover, N.H.) finished with 14 points and eight rebounds. Stacey Morse (Lebanon, N.H.) added 12 points and Julie Tardif (Atkinson, N.H.) scored 11 points with eight rebounds.
Using full court pressure and converting many Anchorwomen turnovers into baskets, Keene State jumped out to a 20-8 lead on a three-pointer by Tardif seven minutes into the game. KSC, which took advantage of 16 RIC turnovers in the half, extended its lead to 46-24 at the break. Alaimo scored 12 of her points in the first half for the Owls.
KSC hit 33 of 41 shots from the free throw line and also finished with a 58-33 advantage on the boards.
Angela Sarette (Putnam, CT) had 13 points and Liz Shields (Warwick, R.I.) added 11 points to lead RIC. Becca Bissonnette (Danielson, CT) had a team-high eight rebounds for the Anchorwomen.
Keene State will be at Western CT (5:30 p.m.) on Tuesday.
