'KEENE, N.H. 02/13/06 - Three Keene State College athletes were honored by the Little East Conference on Monday. Sarah Begnoche was selected to the women's basketball honor roll, while Sean Sullivan and Tyler Kathan earned men's hoop honor roll accolades.
Begnoche, from Millville, Mass., helped lead the Owls to a 1-1 week. The junior forward poured in 19 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and blocked three shots in a key 75-67 LEC overtime victory over Eastern Conn. State University. Begnoche hit four key free throws down the stretch to secure the win. She also had a 10 point, seven rebound performance in a conference loss to Western Connecticut State University (49-44) later in the week.
A native of Athol, Mass., Sullivan averaged 16.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in KSC's 2-0 week. The senior forward had 23 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in a 71-59 win over Eastern Conn., and later scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in a 75-51 victory over Western Conn. on Saturday.
Kathan, a freshman forward from Ludlow, Vt., led all scorers with 22 points in the win over Western Conn. In the victory over Eastern Conn., Kathan pulled down eight rebounds despite being held to just three points.
Both Owl women's and men's basketball teams will travel to in-state rival Plymouth State University on Tuesday. Currently tied for second in the LEC standings, the KSC women's team (14-9, 8-4 LEC) will play at 5:30 p.m., while the Owl men's squad (16-6, 9-3 LEC), tied for the top spot in the conference, will tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
