'KEENE, N.H. 02/6/06 - Four Keene State athletes were honored by the Little East Conference on Monday. Tyler Kathan was named men's basketball rookie of the week Craig Stuart earned men's field athlete of the week recognition while Matt Hickey and Jenn Kinney were selected to men's and women's basketball honor rolls respectively.
In two games last week, Kathan averaged 12.0 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game. In a battle for the top spot in the LEC, Kathan, a freshman from Ludlow, Vt., had 12 points four assists, and four rebounds in the Owls' 90-88 loss to UMass Boston. Kathan, a third-time recipient of LEC rookie honor, tops the team in rebounding (6.4 rpg) and is tied for third in scoring (10.4 ppg).
Competing at the Dartmouth College Classic, Stuart, a freshman from Hanover, N.H., finished first in the triple jump in a KSC record distance of 44'-07.00". Stuart's leap was seven inches further than the previous mark. With his jump, Stuart, who was returning to competition following an early-season knee injury, qualified for both the All-Division and Division III New England Championships.
Hickey, the Owls sophomore point guard from Mahopac, N.Y., averaged 12 and 4.5 assists in Keene State two games.
Forward Jenn Kinney, Salem, N.H. native, had 14 points and six rebounds in KSC's 88-61 win over UMass-Boston.
Keene State hosts Eastern Conn. in LEC basketball action at Spaulding Gym on Tuesday. Tied for second with ECSU, the Owl women (13-8, 7-3 LEC) tip off at 5:30 p.m. while the KSC men (14-6, 7-3) play at 7:30 p.m.
The KSC track team will be at the Little East championships on Sunday at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.
