Three Score Two Goals as Field Hockey Overpowers Bridgewater State 8-0

KEENE, N.H. - The Keene State College field hockey team scored three times in 1:08 in the first ten minutes of the game and went on to cruise past Bridgewater State University 8-0 in Little East Conference action Saturday at Owl Athletic Complex.

  • Keene State:  9-5, 7-1 LEC
  • Bridgewater State:  2-9, 2-5 LEC

How It Happened

Kayla Klein, Kelsey Roberts and Clara Hunkins all scored twice, while Ally McCall notched two more assists as Keene State scored a little over a minute in and four times in the first 9:50 to overpower the Bears.  The Owl defense held BSU without a shot, while Kayla Klein had a game-high seven, landing five on goal.

Keene State was off and running immediately, firing two shots on Bridgewater goalie Jillian Delaney in the first 32 seconds.  Delaney stopped both, but shortly thereafter Kelsey Roberts fed Klein at the 1:16 mark for a 1-0 lead.  The lead grew to four in lightning quick fashion before the first quarter was over, with the Owls scoring three times in just over a minute.  Ally McCall first found the back of the cage off a feed from Jordyn Martin at the 8:42 mark to double the lead, and moments later Roberts did that same thing by herself, as she turned it into a four-goal edge after scoring two times in 26 seconds.  Roberts now has seven goals and ten assists, good for a career-high 24 points, this season.  Erica Chareth and Clara Hunkins added tallies in the second quarter as KSC was never threatened and led 6-0 at the break.

The second half was more of the same, with the Owls possessing the ball for the vast majority of the time.  Klein got one past Delaney in the 46th minute for her 13th goal of the season to make it 7-0.  On that tally, McCall notched her second helper of the day as she continues to move up the national rankings in assists after entering the day averaging one a game.  Hunkins' goal at the 54:28 mark set the final margin and marked the second multi-goal game of her career.  It is also the second consecutive contest in which a Hunkins sister scored a pair after Ellie did so in Wednesday's 5-3 win at Salem State.

Jordan LaRaus (2-0) got her second consecutive start in the KSC cage and was not called upon to make a save.  Delaney (2-8) stopped 11 of 19 shots for Bridgewater in the loss.
