KEENE, N.H. - There are plenty of chances to catch Keene State College athletic events this week, as a soccer doubleheader is scheduled for Wednesday before an action-packed Saturday that sees cross country, volleyball, women's soccer and field hockey all at home. The week also features seven Little East Conference contests as October begins.
The Owls, 4-0 in the conference, will travel to Plymouth State University on Tuesday, October 1 for a 7:00 p.m. start at the New Hampton School before returning home to host Western Connecticut State University (4-0 LEC) on Saturday, October 5 at 2:30 p.m. KSC has won three straight (all shutouts) and five of their last six.
Women's soccer is home for the first time in over three weeks on Wednesday, October 2 when they host Salve Regina University at 5:00 p.m. Keene State then welcomes conference opponent Western Connecticut to Keene on Saturday, October 5 at 2:00 p.m. The Owls are 1-1 in conference play, falling at Castleton 3-0 before beating Rhode Island College 5-1 in Providence.
Keene State will look to bounce against Castleton University on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 p.m., the second of a soccer doubleheader at Dr. Ron Butcher Field. The Owls then head to Danbury for a meeting with Western Connecticut on Saturday (October 5) at 1:00 p.m., the first since last year's Little East tournament championship game that saw the Owls suffer a tough 2-1 overtime defeat.
Note: The Keene State College athletic department will be running a food drive for The Hungry Owl, the college's on-campus food pantry, at Wednesday night's soccer doubleheader. Donations will be accepted at the ticket booth in lieu of admission for both games. Acceptable donations include non-perishable products, pasta, peanut butter, macaroni and cheese, spaghetti sauces, ramen noodles, rice, and energy bars.
Volleyball travels to Castleton University for the second consecutive year Wednesday night (October 2) at 7:00 p.m. before hosting a tri-match on Saturday, October 5. KSC first takes on Western Connecticut State University at 12:00 p.m. before a meeting with Westfield State University at 4:00 p.m.
The men's and women's cross country teams will get back in action by hosting the Keene State College Invitational on Saturday, October 5 at 11:00 a.m.
