GORHAM, MAINE 3/30/13 – The Keene State College women's lacrosse team opened its Little East Conference schedule with a 8-7 loss to the University of Southern Maine at Hannaford Field in Gorham, Maine on Saturday.
Junior Rosie Forster (Andover, Mass.) scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies (5-2, 1-0 LEC) with just 10 seconds to play in regulation.Forster took a pass from sophomore Jill Whitelaw (Kennebunk, Maine) deep in the Huskies' zone, and ran the length of the field before making a move past a Keene defender and beating Keene junior goaltender Erin Taylor (Brewster, N.Y.) to complete the hat trick and give the Southern Maine the win.
Junior Jacki Kelly (Brunswick, Maine) and Forster each had three goals for USM.
Senior Nicole Curry (Hampstead, N.H.) scored with 6:06 to play in the first half to make it a 3-3 game at the break.
The game was decided minutes of play. After Forster scored to give Southern Maine a 7-5 lead at the 6:41 mark, sophomore Lindsay Conroy (Londonderry, N.H.) and senior Lauren Brown (Agawam, Mass.) scored goals 1:18 apart for KSC to tie the score (7-7) with 1:45 to play.
That set the stage for Forster's go-ahead goal in the final seconds.
Keene State outshot USM 28-22. The Huskies had a 10-6 advantage in draw controls.
Taylor finished game with 10 saves for Keene State. Junior Kim Vogel (Sanford, Maine) stopped 14 shots for Southern Maine.
Keene State host Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday (3:30 p.m.).
