Owls trounce Corsairs on Senior Day 12-1

KEENE, N.H. 4/21/13 – The Keene State College men's lacrosse team celebrated senior day with a dominating 12-1 Little East Conference victory over UMass-Dartmouth at Owl Athletic Complex on Sunday.

JT Galloway (Simsbury, Conn.), one of 12 senior honored before the game, scored four goals to lead the Owls.  Sophomore Kevin Carey (Mahopac, N.Y.) and freshman Tyler McKelvie (Acton, Mass.) each had three goals for Keene State (11-2, 5-0 LEC), who have won five straight and remain on top of the LEC standings.

Sophomore Riley Baxter (Groton, Mass.) had the lone goal for UMass-Dartmouth (8-4, 2-3 LEC), whichhas dropped its last three games.

Galloway netted two of his goals, helping the Owls take a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. 

Carey and McKelvie scored second quarter goals as KSC extended its lead to 5-1 at the half.

Keene State scored three unanswered goals in the third quarter to up its lead to 8-1 and five more times in the fourth quarter.

Seniors Ian Hart (Richmond, N.H.) and Taylor Wicke (Fairfield, Conn.) and junior Tajh Russell (Agawam, Mass.) also found the back of the net for the Owls. Senior Taylor Jette (Simsbury, Conn.) and Hart each dished out three assists.

KSC outshot the Corsairs 39-16 and won the battle in the face-off circle 11-7.  Sophomore defender Mike Curley (Billerica, Mass.) had scooped up seven ground balls in the game.

Freshman Alex Sharp (Winchester, Mass.) finished the game with five saves for Keene State.  Junior Nick Thayer (Chelmsford, Mass.) stopped 15 shots for the Corsairs.

Seniors Robert Remy (Rockville Centre, N.Y.), Chris Dosch (Clinton, N.Y.), Andrew Sutton (Norfolk, Mass.), Billy Reis (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) Alex Tress (Simsbury, Conn.), Tommy Todd (Billerica, Mass.), Joseph Purdon (Wrentham, Mass.), Kyle Petterson (Franklin, Mass.), Wicke, Jette, Galloway and Hart were honored prior to the game.

Keene State hosts Plymouth State on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
